Guides for small businesses in Belgium
Belgian invoice rules and structured e-invoicing, made practical.
Since 1 January 2026, Belgian businesses must use structured e-invoices for domestic B2B transactions, while invoices to consumers and cross-border transactions follow different rules. These guides explain the practical steps, Peppol exchange and the information to check with your accountant.
Frequently asked questions
Who must send e-invoices in Belgium?
Since 1 January 2026, VAT-registered businesses established in Belgium must send and receive structured e-invoices for domestic sales to other Belgian businesses. Invoices to consumers and most cross-border invoices follow different rules.
Is a PDF sent by e-mail still accepted?
Not for domestic sales between Belgian businesses: a PDF is not a structured e-invoice. The invoice must be a structured file, usually sent over the Peppol network through an access point.
What should I check with my accountant?
Whether your company is in scope, your Peppol registration and identifier, how your software sends and receives the invoices, and how they are archived. The Belgian guide gives a practical checklist.
